A minute in the day of Singapore = Identifying Behavior
Singaporeans are well known for being "kiasu". However I'm pretty sure nobody would be the first to jump on the bandwagon when it comes to donations or helping street surveyors.
I would simply put it this way, Singaporeans find ignorance bliss, and it's a peculiar behavior that sets us apart. Christmas is round the corner and people are like "Scrooge". Be it the young hip & trendy or the working crowd, they all breezed past the Salvation Army Bell Ringers like they never existed.
I theorize that people are annoyed because there are too many charity organizations and they even call people up to donate. Religion might be a cause; non-Christians might not want to donate to the Salvation Army.
According to my interviews with friends about "flag day", they said some nyonya said;"donate for what?! Make me poor only". Some asked rudely "why always ask for donation one!" I don't think these behaviors would manifest in the future. Our mindsets would change. People would certainly be more educated.
This was my fucking report for CDS Culture & Expression
now say goodnight to the bad guy!
